Rev. Robert B. Jones, Sr. is a renaissance man. A professional musician for more than forty years, an ordained Baptist pastor for more than twenty, and a nationally recognized storyteller for more than fifteen, he brings all three callings to the stage at once — and at the heart of every one of them is the belief that our cultural diversity tells a story worth celebrating, not merely tolerating.

The legendary bluesman Willie Dixon encouraged him to bring his music into schools more than thirty-five years ago, and the National Blues Foundation recognized him as a leading blues educator in 2007. An award-winning multi-instrumentalist on guitar, harmonica, mandolin, banjo, fiddle, and ukulele, he has recorded six albums of original and traditional songs and hosted the acclaimed radio programs “Blues from the Lowlands” and “Deep River” on Detroit Public Radio's WDET-FM.

He has taught music history at Wayne State University, serves on the affiliate faculty at Boston's Berklee College of Music, and has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Timpanogos, Ojai, Azalea, and Cave Run. He is a 2018 Kresge Arts Fellow, a 2025 Michigan Heritage Award recipient, and a 2025 Phil Ochs “Still Small Voice” awardee. He makes his home in Detroit and performs throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe.
